Aimé Leon Dore Just Landed in Los Angeles
Aimé Leon Dore Just Landed in Los Angeles. If you know the brand, you already understand the excitement. If you do not, consider this your introduction.
Teddy Santis just opened ALD's first Los Angeles flagship on Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood, the brand's third location globally after New York and London. Designed with Sarita Posada Interiors, the space features soft stucco walls, a cobblestone courtyard, and an 80-year-old olive tree sourced from the Central Valley. At the center sits Café Leon Dore, fitted with a custom La Marzocco espresso machine and deep green millwork with a marble mosaic by the late Greek artist Alekos Fassianos.
The café alone is worth the trip. The brand blends neighborhood café culture, 90s hip-hop, and Mediterranean summers into something quietly luxurious and entirely its own. Very Los Angeles, funnily enough.
8746 Melrose Ave, West Hollywood.
Santa Monica Farmers Market
We have talked about community a lot in this newsletter, and nothing embodies it quite like our Wednesday mornings at the Santa Monica Farmers Market.
Established in 1981, the Wednesday market on Arizona Avenue is widely recognized as one of the largest and most diverse certified farmers markets in the nation, with over 60 California farms and a regular crowd that includes locals, celebrities, and many of Los Angeles' best known chefs. That last part is the one that always gets us. You are shopping alongside the people who are going to cook what you are buying, and there is something wonderful about that.
More than 100 times each year, home cooks and award-winning chefs gather to sample and purchase exotic citrus, freshly picked berries, and more varieties of tomatoes, tubers, squash, and mushrooms than you probably knew existed. Sixty percent of the market's vendors operate certified organic farms.
It runs every Wednesday from 8am to 1pm on Arizona Avenue between Second and Fourth Streets. Get there early. The good stuff goes fast and the energy before 10am is its own kind of magic.
A home is a story. A market is a ritual. A café with an 80 year old olive tree is a sign that Los Angeles keeps getting it right. See you out there!
